Joel Victor, 17, is from Renacer. He recently went through an entrepreneurship course with World Vision's support. Learn about his newly "planted" business venture.
I am 17 years old, living with my parents and two sisters. Since I was very young, I have liked business. My parents have always taught me to appreciate the little we have, fight for a dream and make it happen.
I've seen examples of entrepreneurship and that encourages me that things really can be done. I have had many ideas to start a small business but couldn't take the steps to achieve this, since I wasn't sure how to start.
A few months ago, I received a note of invitation, which took me by surprise. It was part of a training process" eight modules on entrepreneurship" or young men and women.
I felt motivated to be part of the training. It was the starting point for my dream to start a business. My father helped with some small savings, which I kept to start my life project.
After going through the eight modules, I began to understand things in a different way. I developed a better vision for the business that I really wanted.
I am very grateful to World Vision. I'm undertaking this business together with my family. They have supported me and motivated me to realize my dream.
Give hardworking entrepreneurs the tools to help them
Of course my father said, "Son, I am available. Tell me how I can help you."
I remember saying, "Dad, I want to grow coffee because our area is very fresh and suitable for coffee production."
My mother smiled and my sisters prepared some food [to celebrate] and with my little savings, we bought plastic bags and coffee beans to start a nursery.
The whole family got involved in the small project, looking for the right place, filling the bags and, after a few days, seedlings began to sprout. My excitement was enormous.
I transplanted the seedlings to a small plot of my father's land, and now I maintain my small coffee farm. Soon it will be the first harvest.
Many of my friends like to walk around the farm and hear my experience of having my own business. I am watching it grow, and we intend to realize this dream. Thank you for changing my life and my family's life.
