The Reducing Environmental Shocks, Improving Livelihoods and Inspiring Empowered, Innovative and Thriving Women of Ethiopia (RESILIENT-WE) project is funded by Global Affairs Canada and implemented in the Hararghe zones of Ethiopia.

The project seeks to enhance the resilience of women and other community members to the negative impacts of climate change by:

  • Ehancing women’s agency and decision-making power
  • Increasing their leadership in climate risk mitigation and use of natural resources
  • Expanding their access to diverse livelihoods and economic benefits

This photobook showcases the stories of success, narrated by participants in the project. It demonstrates how the project is transforming gender norms as exemplified through men’s increased participation in household chores that are traditionally considered women’s.  On the environmental front, through women’s leadership, communities have restored degraded areas, increased vegetation cover and improved water availability. The photobook also includes stories of women’s economic empowerment through activities such as poultry rearing, onion production and participation in Savings for Transformation.
