Patricia’s story: leaving a legacy of empowerment

Patricia's Journey

Born in Hamilton, Ontario, Patricia grew up like every other kid. But her life changed forever when she was diagnosed with tuberculous meningitis at just 15 years old. One day, her mother found her unconscious on the floor. After being rushed to the hospital it turned out she had fallen into a coma. Patricia then spent 13 long months in the hospital fighting for her life.

Despite the setback, Patricia never gave up hope for a brighter future. She worked tirelessly to regain her strength and complete her education. It took her six years to finish her final grades of high school. Throughout it all, her parents kept encouraging her to keep going and never give up. She recalls her father writing her letters and considers him to be her biggest cheerleader.

“All you need is someone who believes in you,” Patricia said. “That’s all any child needs anywhere in the world. And that’s what World Vision does for children all over the world.”

Believing In The Next Generation

Patricia believes that every child deserves a chance to thrive, and she is determined to do what she can to make a difference in their lives.

For 36 years, Patricia put that belief into action by sponsoring three children through World Vision, providing them with access to education, healthcare, and a brighter future.

As she looks back on her own journey, Patricia said that she had been blessed with love and support every step of the way. Her father's belief in her had helped her through the toughest times, and she was grateful for every moment she has to make a difference in the world. She also knows that there are countless of children around the world who don't have access to the same resources and opportunities.

A Gift That Will Last

Patricia wants to ensure she continues to support children even when she is no longer here. By choosing to leave a gift to World Vision in her will, she is able to make that happen. It's a way to honour her father and help ensure that the most vulnerable children around the world have the chance to live their lives to the fullest, the same way she did.
