Refugees and migrants

By late 2024, more than 123 million people globally were forcibly displaced due to conflict, violence and persecution, up from 116 million in 2023.

When rising conflict and violence turn into a full-blown humanitarian crisis, World Vision Canada is there to support the children, women and men who suddenly find themselves displaced from home.

Did you know?

Two billion people live in contexts with high and extreme fragility, where communities, systems and countries struggle to cope with multiple risks. By 2030, two-thirds of the world’s extreme poor will live in fragile contexts. The majority will be children.

Who is a refugee?

Refugees and migrants

When armed conflict broke out in Sudan’s capital city of Khartoum in April 2023, over 8.2 million people, including 4 million children, fled to neighbouring countries like South Sudan to escape the widespread violence. World Vision teamed up with Global Affairs Canada and the Humanitarian Coalition to provide emergency relief for over 57,000 refugees who have settled in South Sudan’s Renk transit centre. Together, with your support, we increased access to clean water, health and nutrition services to help ease the burden of overcrowding and growing malnutrition concerns in the encampment.
