Venezuela earthquakes: Latest updates

On June 24, 2026, two powerful earthquakes struck north-central Venezuela near Caracas. The earthquakes occurred within seconds of each other and triggered widespread shaking across the country.

According to the latest official figures, the emergency has claimed more than 5,000 lives, left more than 16,700 people injured, and almost 18,000 people homeless due to the damage caused by the earthquakes.

What are the most urgent needs?

Families affected by the earthquakes urgently need:

  • Emergency shelter
  • Safe drinking water
  • Food assistance
  • Medical care
  • Hygiene supplies
  • Child protection and psychosocial support
  • Temporary learning spaces for children

As emergency operations continue, needs are expected to evolve from immediate relief to longer-term recovery.

How is World Vision responding?

As a proud member of the Humanitarian Coalition, World Vision joined a coordinated emergency appeal to help provide life-saving assistance to children and families affected by the earthquakes.

World Vision continues implementing a multisectoral humanitarian response across the states most affected by the emergency, prioritizing girls, boys, adolescents, and their families. One month after the emergency, World Vision has delivered 76,695 humanitarian interventions, reaching 44,252 people from 6,543 households across the states most affected by the earthquakes.

Among those reached:

  • 24,687 child-focused interventions have directly reached 13,361 children.
  • An additional 30,891 interventions have reached 17,726 women and 13,165 men.
  • Food security assistance has been provided to 40,745 people across 5,818 households.
  • 1,733 people, primarily children, have received child protection services, psychosocial support, and access to Child-Friendly Spaces.
  • Through water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) assistance, 15,640 people have been directly reached, representing 3,720 households.
  • 1,363 people received support for temporary shelter assistance.
