Transactional Terms
Effective Date: September 2026
1. Application of These Transactional Terms
These Transactional Terms (the "Transactional Terms") govern donations, recurring giving arrangements, gift catalogue transactions, event registrations, sponsorship-related payment arrangements, subscriptions, and any other paid, registered or transactional activity made available by or through World Vision Canada (the "Transactions").
These Transactional Terms supplement the Website Terms of Use, Privacy Policy, Cookie & Web Technologies Notice, and any campaign-, event-, contest- or service-specific terms made available in connection with a particular Transaction. In the event of a conflict, the more specific terms govern in relation to the applicable Transaction.
By completing or attempting to complete a Transaction, you agree to be bound by these Transactional Terms.
World Vision Canada seeks to provide accessible digital transaction experiences and encourages individuals who require accommodation or assistance with a Transaction to contact us using the contact information below.
2. Eligibility and Authority
You represent and warrant that:
- you are legally capable of entering into a binding agreement;
- all information you provide in connection with a Transaction is accurate, complete and current;
- you are authorized to use the payment method and contact information provided.
We may refuse, suspend, reverse or cancel a Transaction if we reasonably believe that a Transaction is unauthorized, inaccurate, fraudulent, abusive, unlawful, inconsistent with applicable sanctions restrictions, or otherwise contrary to these Transactional Terms.
3. Pricing, Currency, Taxes and Charges
Unless otherwise stated, amounts displayed in connection with Transactions are in Canadian dollars.
Any applicable taxes, fees or charges will be disclosed before you complete the Transaction, where required.
Mandatory fixed non-government charges will not be added in a manner that makes a displayed price unattainable; however, displayed amounts may be subject to applicable taxes, government charges, or clearly disclosed fees where applicable.
We reserve the right to correct clerical, technical, pricing or descriptive errors and to cancel or refuse a Transaction that is affected by such an error, subject to refunding any amount actually received where appropriate.
4. Payment Processing
Payments may be processed by trusted third-party payment processors, and by other financial institutions or service providers engaged by World Vision Canada.
By submitting payment information and completing a Transaction, you authorize World Vision Canada and the applicable payment processor to charge the selected payment method for the applicable amount and any other amount expressly authorized by you in connection with the Transaction.
Payment processing is subject to validation, authorization, fraud screening and operational review. Completion of a checkout flow does not guarantee acceptance of the Transaction.
5. Receipts and Confirmation
World Vision Canada may provide a confirmation of a Transaction by on-screen confirmation, email, account notification or other appropriate means.
A Transaction is not deemed accepted until payment or registration has been successfully processed and accepted by World Vision Canada or its designated processor.
Any tax receipt issued by World Vision Canada will be issued in accordance with applicable law and World Vision Canada’s receipting practices.
6. Donations Generally
Donations made through the Site support World Vision Canada’s charitable mission and activities, subject to donor directions where accepted and practicable, and subject to legal, operational, regulatory and program requirements.
World Vision Canada reserves the right, where reasonably necessary, to apply donated amounts to substantially similar charitable purposes if a designated project, fund, initiative or program cannot be carried out exactly as described due to operational, safety, feasibility, timing, regulatory, or programmatic considerations.
Except as otherwise stated, a donation does not create any continuing contractual entitlement to specific programming, access, recognition or deliverables beyond what is expressly described.
7. One-Time Donations
A one-time donation is complete once payment has been successfully processed and accepted.
If a payment fails, is declined or is reversed, the donation will not be completed unless and until payment is successfully processed.
8. Recurring Donations
If you enroll in recurring giving, you authorize World Vision Canada and its payment processor to charge your selected payment method at the frequency and in the amount selected by you until the recurring arrangement is changed or cancelled.
You are responsible for ensuring that your payment information remains accurate and current.
You may update, pause or cancel a recurring donation arrangement by using any account or donor tools made available to you or by contacting World Vision Canada, subject to reasonable administrative processing timelines. Cancellation or changes submitted shortly before a scheduled processing date may not take effect until the following cycle.
World Vision Canada may suspend or cancel a recurring arrangement if a payment method fails, if fraud or misuse is suspected, if the arrangement is no longer operationally available, or for other reasonable administrative or legal reasons.
World Vision Canada will notify donors before making any material change to the amount or frequency of a recurring charge, except where the change is initiated or expressly authorized by the donor or where different notice is permitted by applicable law or payment-network rules.
9. Donation Refunds
Completed donations are generally non-refundable, except where required by law or where World Vision Canada determines in its discretion that a refund is appropriate due to duplication, error, fraud, unauthorized use, or another exceptional circumstance.
Refund requests may be refused where a tax receipt has already been issued and cannot appropriately be reversed, or where legal, regulatory or operational factors make a refund inappropriate.
Nothing in this section limits any rights that cannot lawfully be waived.
10. Gift Catalogue Terms
Amounts contributed through the gift catalogue support charitable programming and initiatives described in the catalogue or substantially similar purposes where necessary.
Unless expressly stated otherwise, catalogue gifts are symbolic or representative of charitable support and do not necessarily correspond to the purchase or delivery of a specific item to a named or identifiable individual, family or community.
World Vision Canada may substitute, redirect or reallocate catalogue-related funds to a substantially similar charitable purpose where needed due to availability, safety, regulatory issues, project feasibility, timing, supply chain constraints, local needs, effectiveness considerations, or other operational factors.
Descriptions, illustrations and impact statements are intended to convey the general nature and charitable purpose of the gift or donation category and should not be interpreted as a guarantee of a specific individual outcome unless expressly stated.
If any gift catalogue offering includes an actual physical or digital deliverable to the donor (such as a card, certificate or message), details of delivery timing, availability and limitations will be stated at the time of the Transaction or in related campaign materials.
11. Sponsorship-Related Payment Arrangements
If you enroll in a sponsorship-related payment arrangement, you acknowledge that sponsorship contributions typically support broader community-based or program-based child-focused work and are not necessarily transferred solely or directly to one identified child.
World Vision Canada may adjust sponsorship administration, child assignment, communications, community allocation or related operational processes in accordance with program realities, safeguarding, local conditions and organizational practice.
Recurring sponsorship-related payment arrangements are processed in accordance with the recurring payment provisions in these Transactional Terms unless more specific terms are presented at the time of enrollment.
You may cancel or update a sponsorship-related payment arrangement by contacting World Vision Canada or using any account or donor tools made available to you, subject to reasonable processing timelines.
12. Event Registrations
Registration for an event, fundraising activity, conference, webinar, gala, program, challenge or similar activity (an "Event") is subject to availability and to any event-specific rules, instructions or eligibility requirements made available in connection with the Event.
By registering for an Event, you agree to comply with any event-specific conduct, safety, participation, media, accessibility, venue or operational requirements made available to you.
World Vision Canada may modify, postpone, relocate or cancel an Event where reasonably necessary due to weather, safety concerns, low registration, venue issues, legal requirements, speaker or supplier availability, public health concerns, force majeure, or any other circumstances beyond our reasonable control.
13. Event Fees, Transfers and Refunds
Unless otherwise stated in event-specific terms:
- event registrations are final once accepted and processed;
- event fees may be non-refundable;
- transfer, substitution or credit rights, if any, are determined in accordance with event-specific policies.
Where an Event is cancelled by World Vision Canada and not rescheduled, World Vision Canada may, at its discretion and subject to applicable law, offer a refund, credit, ticket transfer, conversion to donation, or other reasonable remedy depending on the circumstances and the nature of the Event.
14. Subscriptions, Alerts and Communications
If you subscribe to newsletters, updates, event reminders, appeals, campaign alerts or similar communications, you agree that World Vision Canada may send you the communications you selected, subject to applicable law, your communication preferences, and our Privacy Policy.
Some communications may be operational, transactional, receipting, account-related, event-related or service-related, while others may be promotional, fundraising-related or campaign-related.
You may change your preferences or unsubscribe from eligible communications using the unsubscribe mechanism included in the communication or by contacting World Vision Canada, subject to applicable law and reasonable processing timelines.
15. Communication Preferences and Consent
Certain Transactions may require or rely upon your consent to receive transactional, promotional or fundraising-related communications, or your acknowledgement of how such communications are managed.
Where required by law, consent to receive commercial or fundraising-related electronic messages must be obtained and managed in accordance with applicable legal requirements.
Nothing in these Transactional Terms overrides any rights you may have under applicable anti-spam, privacy, accessibility, payment-card, consumer-protection or charitable fundraising laws.
16. Chargebacks, Fraud and Verification
World Vision Canada reserves the right to investigate, suspend, reverse or refuse a Transaction where there is reason to believe that a Transaction involves fraud, identity misuse, unauthorized payment activity, inaccurate information, chargeback abuse, sanctions risk or other unlawful or improper conduct.
You agree to cooperate with reasonable verification requests where necessary to confirm the validity of a Transaction.
Where a chargeback or reversal occurs in error or in breach of these Transactional Terms, World Vision Canada reserves the right to take reasonable steps to recover the amount and associated costs, to the extent permitted by law.
World Vision Canada may conduct screening, verification and compliance reviews required or appropriate under applicable sanctions, anti-terrorism, anti-money-laundering, donor due diligence, payment-network, charitable accountability and other legal or regulatory requirements.
17. Availability and Changes to Transactions
World Vision Canada may modify, suspend or discontinue any Transaction type, gift catalogue offering, event, payment option, fundraising channel, sponsorship arrangement or subscription feature at any time, subject to applicable law and to any completed Transactions that must still be administered.
We do not guarantee that all donation options, events, campaigns, products, symbolic gifts, subscriptions, payment methods or registration opportunities will always be available.
18. Force Majeure and Operational Disruptions
World Vision Canada will not be responsible for delay, failure, suspension, modification, cancellation or inability to complete or administer a Transaction, Event, sponsorship-related arrangement, gift catalogue offering, subscription feature or related service where the issue results from circumstances beyond its reasonable control. These circumstances may include acts of God, natural disasters, weather events, public health events, labour disruptions, supplier or payment-processor failures, telecommunications or internet disruptions, cybersecurity incidents, governmental action, war, terrorism, civil unrest, sanctions restrictions, legal or regulatory changes, local security conditions, program feasibility issues, or other force majeure or operational disruption events.
19. Third-Party Services
Transactions may involve third-party processors, platforms, payment gateways, event vendors, digital service providers, communications tools, analytics providers or affiliated World Vision entities.
World Vision Canada is not responsible for any independent obligation or policy of a third-party provider except to the extent required by law or to the extent such provider is acting on our behalf and under our control.
Where personal information is processed through a third-party provider on our behalf, it is handled in accordance with our Privacy Policy and applicable contractual safeguards.
20. Disclaimer of Warranties
To the fullest extent permitted by law, all Transactions, payment functions, catalogue features, event registration tools, sponsorship tools, and subscription tools are provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis without representations, warranties or conditions of any kind, except as expressly stated and except to the extent warranties or rights cannot lawfully be excluded.
World Vision Canada does not guarantee uninterrupted availability of any Transaction channel, Event, payment processor, digital certificate, catalogue category, communication method or registration function.
21. Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, World Vision Canada and its affiliates, directors, officers, employees, volunteers, agents and service providers will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, consequential, special, exemplary or punitive damages, or for loss of revenue, profits, use, goodwill, business opportunity or anticipated savings arising out of or relating to any Transaction or these Transactional Terms.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, the aggregate liability of World Vision Canada for direct damages arising out of a specific Transaction will not exceed the amount actually paid by you in relation to that Transaction giving rise to the claim.
Nothing in these Transactional Terms excludes or limits liability, statutory warranties, consumer-protection rights, payment-card rights, refund rights, or other rights or remedies that cannot lawfully be excluded, limited or waived under applicable law.
22. Indemnity
You agree to indemnify, defend and hold harmless World Vision Canada and its affiliates, directors, officers, employees, volunteers, agents and service providers from and against claims, losses, damages, liabilities, costs and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of or relating to:
- your breach of these Transactional Terms;
- your fraudulent, unauthorized or unlawful Transaction activity;
- inaccurate information provided by you;
- your misuse of any Event, sponsorship, subscription or Transaction-related feature.
23. Governing Law and Jurisdiction
These Transactional Terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada applicable therein, without regard to conflict of law principles.
Subject to any rights that may not lawfully be waived, you agree that the courts of Ontario shall have exclusive jurisdiction in relation to disputes arising out of or in connection with these Transactional Terms or any Transaction.
24. General
If any provision of these Transactional Terms is held to be invalid, illegal or unenforceable, the remaining provisions remain in full force and effect.
No waiver by World Vision Canada of any breach or default is effective unless in writing and no waiver is a continuing waiver.
These Transactional Terms, together with the Website Terms of Use, Privacy Policy, Cookie & Web Technologies Notice and any applicable transaction-specific or campaign-specific terms, form the entire agreement between you and World Vision Canada in relation to the applicable Transaction.
