Protecting girls and boys from harm is foundational to World Vision’s work. Our projects across all sectors integrate child protection measures so that children’s safety and holistic well-being are prioritized. We know that children can flourish when they grow up in safe, nurturing environments.

Our positive parenting programs are one way we help families work toward that reality.

Through workshops and support groups, these programs help parents reflect on their own childhoods, strengthen their relationships with their children and discover new parenting skills. They learn non-violent, evidence-based discipline strategies, and gain confidence to create homes where children feel protected, valued and understood.

Positive parenting: A strong investment in children’s well-being

Between 2019 and 2021, World Vision Canada reached nearly 150,000 girls and boys in 24 countries through 67 projects that used positive parenting interventions.

We wanted to understand the realimpactTM of this work, so we engaged an external analytics firm. They ran an economic analysis, assessing the social and health impacts, including cost effectiveness and long-term benefits for children.

The findings were encouraging. They revealed:

  • Every dollar invested in our positive parenting work generated $4.36 in mental health benefits for children.
  • In total, over US$34 million was generated in benefits. An estimated 16 lives were saved over three years through the projects.

These positive parenting projects were found to be a cost-effective use of Canadian funds, making a realimpactTM for children and their families.
