A sweet source of income

Chhaliheng, 11, is a Grade 4 student. He likes helping his dad collect honey from the forest nearby.

The sponsored child is helpful at home, too. After school he does house chores and takes care of his little brother. It helps spell off his parents, who lead sessions for community members on how to protect natural resources while also increasing their incomes.

Chhaliheng's father is a leader of the local bee conservation network and a community-based wild honey enterprise. He has shared his experience with other communities, teaching them to collect natural resources like wild honey, while still protecting the forest.

Through these kinds of activities, families are finding a more sustainable income source and moving their communities forward socially and environmentally at the same time.

"I can buy school materials from the money that we earn by collecting honey," Chhaliheng says. "Moreover, it will make our community keep a healthy environment."

Bring joy to children and families. Give a gift to your sponsored child's community.
