This vast Saharan country is located in northwest Africa. The hot, dry plains of the Sahara Desert cover most of the country, with a narrow fertile valley running along the southern border.

Fighting Ebola

Ebola has killed more than 11,000 people across West Africa. Transmissions rates have slowed down and new cases of infection are now rare, but the virus has affected local economies and families will need much longer to recover from the epidemic.

Fortunately, not one sponsored children has contracted the disease.

World Vision has helped communities in the region fight Ebola, especially in Sierra Leone. We taught people ways control the spread of the virus and provided frontline and health workers the necessary training and equipment to combat the disease. We are now focusing on long-term recovery programs to support children’s well-being.
