Almost 1.3 million Canadian children live in poverty.

World Vision Canada partners with over 100 local community-based organizations to increase the well-being of children living in urban low-income neighbourhoods, particularly those in single parent, new Canadian and Aboriginal families.​

Making a Real Difference

  • NEW Canadian Programs 5

    Approximately 25,000, or one in four, live in poverty in Hamilton. CityKidz' KinderKidz program works with pre-schoolers from low-income neighbourhoods to help children thrive amidst adversity: 88% of children participating in the KinderKidz program show age appropriate pro-social behaviours and 61% show a positive connection to an adult mentor at KinderKidz.

  • NEW Canadian Programs 6

    In Inner City Vancouver, children have limited opportunities for artistic expression and community engagement. In partnership with World Vision, Saint James Music Academy’s Junior Outreach Program offers choirs and music lessons to children in their neighbourhood. As a result, 82% of participant children demonstrate progress in musical skills and 84% of participants collaborate and participate in a creative community.

    Responding to the aspirations of youth in East Vancouver, Inner Hope Youth Ministries offers mentoring and housing support to youth working to overcome the challenges of at-risk situations. In partnership with World Vision, Inner Hope's Boundless program has seen 92% of participant youth demonstrate increased housing stability, educational progress and life skills.

  • Canadian Programs 3

    In Montreal's Cloverdale neighbourhood, 65% of households experience the indignities of poverty. In this challenging context, many youth doubt they will be able to achieve their dreams of a positive future. Montreal Youth Unlimited partnered with World Vision Canada in order to mentor Cloverdale youth who had withdrawn from school. Through the Envol program, nearly 63% of participants demonstrated improved money management skills and 50% of participants are now working or pursuing further academic education.
