Eleven-year-old Karina smiles showing the red butterfly she’s drawn. The colour matches her shirt and the shirt of her mom, Kamala. They’re spending time at a child-friendly space that World Vision established in Kathmandu after the earthquake that hit Nepal in April. Here, children are given a safe, emotionally-supportive place to spend time. World Vision has opened 31 child-friendly spaces in the country.

Rebuilding and healing in Nepal will continue. Though it may seem sentimental, a place for a child to draw, a chance for her to smile, is a good start.
