Micro-loans transform lives

A widow with eight children prospers—and gives back
Today you can hear the loud sound of hammers pounding in a small workshop run by Pascasie Ntahombaye of Burundi. This is the sound of self-reliance. But it wasn’t always heard here. A 55-year-old widow, Pascasie has six children and two adopted ones. She’s been the primary breadwinner since her husband died 13 years ago. With no means of support and eight mouths to feed, it seemed impossible to keep her family alive. Hunger and terrible hardship were daily facts of life. Then, thanks to partners like you, Pascasie received a World Vision micro-loan in April 2005 and started a tin bucket production business. She now earns enough income for her own family, and even employs relatives and neighbours, allowing six more families to earn their living with self-respect.
