Micro-loans transform lives

Maria achieves the business of her dreams Approximately 67 percent of World Vision’s micro-loan recipients are women. Mothers like Maria Magdalena Zuñiga of El Salvador. Several years ago, she was deeply in debt and had little to feed her four children. Her husband’s work as a driver was unsteady. The family was desperate. But Maria always had a knack for commerce, so she was among the first to apply when World Vision came to her community with a micro-loan program. The small loan and business development training given by World Vision staff got her started in selling clothing in her community.
This small business has transformed the life and future of Maria’s family. “I am achieving the business of my dreams,” Maria says. “Now I want to have a house of my own that will be the heritage for my children.”
