World Vision needs your help to keep vital programs for children and women running in the Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo
Millions of children and their families are trying to survive in refugee camps because of the ongoing conflict in the Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). World Vision is there - working to meet the growing needs of those who are suffering, but more assistance is needed to keep our programs running.
Helping children be children and keeping them healthy
In cooperation with the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA), World Vision is working to drill boreholes and build latrines at medical centres, schools and areas of displacement. Child-friendly spaces have been created, allowing parents to bring their children to play with others in supervised, secure areas and receive counseling to help them deal with the trauma they are experiencing.
Keeping young girls and women safe
Young girls and women are especially susceptible to sexual slavery by armed groups in the DRC. In order to help prevent incidences of rape, World Vision has set up special security lighting near water collection points where women tend to be vulnerable to attack. World Vision also has programs that focus on empowering and educating women and girls on their rights to help them lobby the government for better health care.
