HopeChild Sponsorship with World Vision Canada
HopeChild sponsorship is a unique sponsorship program offered by World Vision Canada designed specifically to help families who live in areas impacted by HIV and AIDS. By working with the communities to meet their identified needs in essential areas such as, education, skills training, improved nutrition, agricultural assistance, safe water, and health care, the HopeChild sponsorship program also addresses the needs related to HIV and AIDS. Through these efforts, families are better able to care for their own children as well as vulnerable children in the community, while helping more children stay HIV-free.

Why is HopeChild Sponsorship Needed? World Vision has worked worldwide for over 60 years to help children and their communities reach their full potential by tackling the causes of poverty. HIV and AIDS are now jeopardizing that progress.
AIDS endangers a family’s health, a child’s future and a community’s efforts to access clean water, a reliable food supply, education and economic development. As parents get sick and can’t work or grow sufficient food, children often have to leave school to tend to their family’s needs.
Children who leave school often are forced into livelihoods that put them at greater risk of HIV infection. As orphaned children struggle to survive, they may spiral even deeper into poverty; girls are often worse off than boys.
Developing a response to HIV and AIDS is a priority for World Vision. The AIDS pandemic is the greatest single challenge facing the global community today. This does not mean that other developmental issues are unimportant; it simply recognizes that AIDS makes everything else worse.
How does HopeChild Sponsorship Help Children?
HopeChild sponsors work towards achieving these three goals:
1) Families can better care for their children
In many AIDS-impacted communities, many sponsored children live with their parents and siblings. However, life can be extremely difficult for them. Along with local staff and community leaders, we work towards providing access to things like education, skills training, improved nutrition, agricultural assistance, safe water, and health care so families can meet their children’s basic needs andgive them a brighter future.
2) Families care for the vulnerable in the community
This happens by simultaneously reducing stigma and helping families better care for their children. When that happens, they are then able to care for the vulnerable in their community.
3) More children free from HIV
It is important for people to realize that we are working towards an AIDS-free generation. Since many of the sponsored children are HIV-free, our efforts are geared towards keeping it that way through prevention and advocacy.
