World Vision works to improve child well-being and to serve people around the world regardless of religion, race, gender or ethnicity. Poverty is a complex problem, and World Vision seeks to address its root causes in a holistic way by focusing its efforts on three main areas.
1. Transformational Development
In partnership with local communities, governments and other non-governmental organizations (NGOs), World Vision helps children and families live with dignity and security. Described as Transformational Development, this positive change is community-based and sustainable, with special emphasis on the well-being of children.

World Vision is quick to respond to natural disasters and conflicts around the globe. Our goals are to save lives, reduce human suffering, protect livelihoods, strengthen community resilience and promote peace and reconciliation.

3. Advocacy and Public Engagement
World Vision invites its supporters and the Canadian public to address the root causes of global poverty. Rooted in our work with children and communities, we support and call for public policies and government practices that will help reduce poverty and injustice.
In Canada, World Vision’s advocacy work includes an Ottawa bureau that focuses on national policy makers. A larger team of policy experts provides field-based research and policy alternatives on global issues affecting children.
