Canadians are the most compassionate towards people affected by HIV and AIDS compared with six other G8 countries, says an Ipsos Reid survey. But a separate study by UNAIDS found that when it comes to providing support to fight HIV and AIDS, Canada ranks near the bottom of the list.
Take Action
Help close this gap between Canadians' compassion and our country's action though the Heroes for Health campaign. Finance Ministers from G8 countries will be discussing funding commitments leading up to the annual G8 Summit. These discussions are instrumental in shaping the Summit's agenda and priorities.
Please take a minute to send a letter to Finance Minister Jim Flaherty urging him to:
- increase Canada’s funding to HIV and AIDS programs in line with our fair share
- work with G8 leaders to provide a comprehensive plan to meet the HIV and AIDS commitments to universal prevention, treatment and support by 2010
- turn around the serious decline in Canada’s broader aid program by setting a budgetary plan to increase our foreign aid spending by 15% per year over the next ten years
