Welcome to Advocacy in Action
Here you can explore the world of justice for children by learning more about what World Vision does to help build a better world for children through engaging with governments, institutions, communities and individuals to address the causes of child poverty.

You can also join our Justice Network – a community of Canadians who share a passion for making a real difference in the lives of children around the world.

You’re invited to cook up a little justice.

Child nutrition is a hot topic right now, both in the developing world and here at home. Did you know that almost a quarter billion children worldwide go to bed hungry every night—even though there is enough food for all of us? It’s an injustice we can do something about.

If you live in Calgary, Vancouver or Toronto, we invite you join us and help cook up some justice for vulnerable children. Celebrity chef and recording artist Roger Mooking, who joined us on a recent trip to Cambodia, will show you how to prepare a dish inspired by the people he met there. He’ll also share some of the incredible things he learned about child nutrition and development.

All you need to do is RSVP by clicking here. Then check out our new website, www.worldvisionvoices.ca to learn more about Cooking up Justice.

If you live outside the area of our scheduled events, you can still cook up some justice on our website! You’ll see video footage and photos from Roger’s trip, read some pretty amazing recipes for justice, and learn how you can make a difference by lending your voice to our Cooking up Justice campaign.

Election 2011
Canadians will head to the polls on May 2, and World Vision Canada is busy looking to our nation’s political leaders for vision and wisdom in their electoral platforms and stated commitments to address global poverty.

In 2010, the Government of Canada announced that starting in 2011 they would introduce a freeze on aid for overseas development and emergencies. The 2011 budget confirmed this plan to freeze foreign aid—funding that is vital in helping children and communities overcome issues of poverty.

Frozen aid is less effective aid and World Vision has urged all candidates and party leaders to remain fully engaged in global efforts to improve child and maternal health, nutrition and food security and unfreeze the foreign aid budget.

When the election was announced, World Vision asked each Canadian political party two questions relating to their commitments on foreign aid and their party’s activities to reduce child mortality around the world. Click here to see those questions, and the responses of each political party.

What can you do?

Ask the candidates in your riding this question:

I know that your party has committed to showing Canadian leadership in the world. I believe that that leadership should include helping the world's poorest children.
  • If you are elected, what actions will you personally take to make sure that the needs of the world's poorest children are a priority for the Canadian government?
  • What concrete actions will you take to help stop child trafficking and preventable child and maternal deaths?
Let us know what they say—send us an e-mail, justice@worldvision.ca. You can also:
