World Vision began working in Israel and the Palestinian territories in 1975 with a mandate to serve the poor and marginalized groups, with a special emphasis on children. At that time, World Vision’s role was to assist through education and rehabilitation projects. The organization sought to empower communities to be independent from relief and aid, while building long-lasting solutions. World Vision and Gaza Today Today, World Vision operates projects in Jerusalem, West Bank and Gaza. Donors from around the world sponsor over 23,000 children in the West Bank and Gaza alone, including 6,000 sponsored by Canadians. Child sponsorship is the foundation of World Vision’s work in the Palestinian territories. Funds from sponsorship are used to help entire communities where children live. World Vision believes that developing and improving a child’s overall environment will help develop a child’s prospects for the future. The ultimate goal of sponsorship is self sustainability, so that children and communities can thrive, independent from relief and aid. In addition to its development work, World Vision also advocates for a just and comprehensive peace between Palestinians and Israelis. Programs, Projects and Staff World Vision currently serves close to 250,000 people through its work in the Palestinian territories. World Vision Canada in particular funds two Area Development Projects (ADPs) in the West Bank, including the East Hebron ADP, which includes 10 communities with a total population of 25,000 people. In addition to the two ADPs, World Vision Canada finances four projects in the region. Reclaiming Land for Farmers in the West Bank This land reclamation project seeks to increase agricultural production, promote income-generating opportunities and improve livelihood security among vulnerable farming families in the West Bank. Promoting Women Economic Development The goal of this project is to increase food security, employment and economic opportunities for impoverished families in the East Hebron ADP villages, with a focus on women. Supporting Parents Circle–Families Forum (PCFF) PCFF is a grassroots organization seeking to create peace between Israelis and Palestinians who have lost loved ones in the conflict, and who want to promote peace rather than revenge. Integrated Management of Selected Micro-Watershed in East Bani Naim This project focuses on improving food security and increasing poor farmers' income by implementing new techniques in water management to improve agriculture. Help provide relief to families affected by conflict in Gaza. |
