Walk of Fame Induction

Dave Toycen, president of World Vision Canada, is set to present Canadian musician Tom Cochrane with a star on Canada’s Walk of Fame.

Cochrane, who is a passionate advocate on behalf of children around the world, has partnered with World Vision Canada for several years now. He has traveled to countries including Kenya and Sri Lanka to witness World Vision's work in action. Cochrane has also raised awareness for the organization in numerous interviews, articles and concerts.

Cochrane, who was born in Lynn Lake, Manitoba, has been making music since he was 11 years old. To date he has released 16 albums. He may be best known for his hit song “Life is a Highway” which was written in response to a trip to Africa with World Vision.

Cochrane’s star on Canada’s Walk of Fame is the latest of many honours for the compassionate rocker. Over the course of his career, he has received seven Juno awards. In recognition of his musical talents and humanitarian efforts, he was named an officer of the Order of Canada in 2008.

The Canada’s Walk of Fame ceremony in which Toycen will be presenting will air Sunday, September 13 at 9 p.m. (ET/PT) on the Global and SLICE networks. The annual tribute is presented to a selection of internationally recognized and outstanding Canadians for their lifetime achievements in the fields of music, sport, film and television, literature, visual and performing arts, science and innovation.
