At her home in Ontario, Dora Cornu brings out an old photo album with pictures of
her former sponsored child.

The first photograph of I Wayan Polos Jonathan, dated 1965, shows a frail boy living
in an Indonesian orphanage. The final photograph, taken decades later, is a family portrait. Wayan stands proudly beside his wife and their three university-educated children.

Remarkably, Cornu and Wayan remain in touch after 44 years. In a recent phone conversation, the two had a chance to hear each other’s voice for the first time.
