Transformed lives transforming others
Ferdinand Jose and Sony Heng have both experienced the transforming power of child sponsorship. Now that they are grown and working, they want to help transform the lives of the next generation.
When Ferdinand, now 31, was first sponsored, he was a malnourished youngster in North Harbor, the Philippines. Besides providing nourishing food for him and his family, World Vision gave Ferdinand the opportunity to receive an education. This good start in life encouraged him to go on and pursue a marketing degree before he ultimately felt led to become a pastor. He now is making plans to conduct tutorial classes for poor children in Rizal province and become a World Vision sponsor himself.
Ten years Ferdinand's junior and half-a-continent away, Sony tells a similar story. World Vision inspired her dream to become a teacher in her native Cambodia by building a school in her community. With her own education behind her, Sony now teaches Grades 7 and 8 at a district school and devotes her spare time assisting World Vision's local HIV/AIDS home health program. It's important for Cambodians to help themselves, she says, thanking all World Vision sponsors for first giving her and others like her the opportunity for life in all its fullness.
