Three Ways Groups Can Make a Difference

While the World Vision Gift Catalogue has great Christmas and birthday gift ideas, it's not just for individuals. Many groups raise funds each year to buy items out of the Gift Catalogue and help those in need.

1. In the Neighbourhood
WHO Sharon Hudson, her husband, Nick Moore, and the seniors at McConaghy Seniors' Centre in Richmond Hill, Ontario
WHAT For the past three years, the couple has held what Sharon calls "Half-a-Cow Concerts" at the centre to raise money for the Gift Catalogue. At these biannual events, Nick plays the piano and the seniors do everything from singing to drumming to belly dancing.
RESULT Last year, this group raised enough money to stock a medical clinic, fill a stable with animals, and contribute funds toward a water well.

2. At Work
WHO Employees at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts
WHAT Sylvie Desrosiers, a child sponsor and employee of the museum, received a Gift Catalogue in the mail last year. Inspired, she asked her colleagues to help her make a purchase.
RESULT Sylvie's fellow staff members loved the idea and happily contributed money. Word spread, and soon colleagues she hadn't even approached were offering money for the cause. They raised enough money to buy hens and roosters for several families in need.

3. At School
WHO Students of the Lions Bay Elementary School in Lions Bay, B.C.
WHAT Last year, 54 students from the school held a "Jingle Jog." They raised money by doing chores and running laps around their schoolyard.
RESULT They raised more than $3,000 to purchase a variety of items from the Gift Catalogue.
