Millions Stand Up Against Poverty
More than 23.5 million people around the world stood up and set a Guinness World Record on October 15 and 16, 2006. This feat was part of the Stand Up Against Poverty campaign to send the simple message to world leaders that it is time to end extreme poverty.
Among the participants, more than 49,000 Canadians stood up at events ranging from marathon races to church services.
The Millennium Campaign and Make Poverty History organized Stand Up Against Poverty to demonstrate public support for the Millennium Development Goals. Numerous groups and organizations, including World Vision, also supported this record-setting event.
