China Earthquake Update

Thank you for your generous gift to help provide life-saving shelter, care and hope to China’s earthquake survivors.

Your gift is like a small miracle for families that were devastated by the loss of their homes, belongings and even loved ones. You’re helping to provide them with things like:

Tents and blankets
Basic health services
Food and water
Clothing and school supplies

But perhaps most importantly, you’re providing hope for children like eight-year-old Xiao Hua.

When World Vision distributed Back-to-School kits to the children of Shaanxi Province, Xiao Hua stood out. She walked and talked very slowly. We were told she’d suffered brain damage when her house collapsed in the quake.

But that didn’t stop her from thanking us politely when she received her new school bag full of supplies, or from joyfully telling her friends, “I am very happy.”

Thank you, with support from friends like you, Xiao Hua and her schoolmates are also receiving disaster preparedness training, and World Vision plans to rebuild their school.

Children in China continued their classes in 6 pre-fabricated classrooms amidst frequent aftershocks throughout June and July to complete the school year.

Dave Toycen met with World Vision staff from China at a Child Friendly Space in Sichuan Province.

Child Friendly Space at Qiaozhuang Primary School provides a safe place for children to play and to help them restore their routine.
