Tsunami: Your Generosity—Our Accountability
Generous donations from around the world added up to more than $420 million to make World Vision's immediate relief work and long-term rebuilding efforts possible in tsunami-affected communities.
World Vision is using the tsunami funds entrusted to us with the highest level of integrity and accountability. From the beginning of our response, we have upheld the following stewardship guidelines:
The only costs being recovered from these donations are those related to tsunami fundraising and administrative activities. These costs amount to nine per cent of total donations received worldwide, and six per cent of Canadian tsunami donations.
All interest earned on tsunami donations is being credited to tsunami-related programs.

Since the tsunami, World Vision has spent $109.4 million (or 26 per cent of available funds) in Southeast Asia on recovery and reconstruction.

The following bar graph shows the different World Vision programs designed to help tsunami-affected countries recover and rebuild. Some, such as Emergency Response, are almost completed, whereas other programs, such as Shelter, are still in the early stages.
