World Vision responds in Thailand
In Thailand, 5,180 people died, 8,457 were injured, and 3,810 are still missing. The tsunami badly affected the provinces of Ranong, Phangnga, Krabi, Phuket, Trang and Satun where World Vision has 16 project areas. All of these provinces are also major tourist destinations. More than 2,000 families received survival kits during the emergency phase of World Vision’s response.

To date, World Vision’s rehabilitation work includes:

  • Repatriation for more than 220 Burmese migrant workers. This voluntary program includes a medical check, food, boat tickets, and 2000 baht ($50 US).
  • 220 temporary shelters built for families.
  • 60,000 cartons of milk and 3,000 cartons of powdered milk distributed to families with young children.
  • 5,000 plastic ground covers provided to families in need.
  • Boats, nets, and loans for fishermen who lost their livelihoods.
