World Vision and the Middle East
For nearly 30 years World Vision has been working in community development in the Middle East. We have been particularly disturbed by the terrible toll of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict on children. Several hundred children on both sides have been killed and all live with fear and trauma. Child sponsorship helps to fund relief and development work that we believe provides hope as an alternative to anger and violence for children living and growing up in grinding poverty and fear.
Our Work
World Vision serves more than 200,000 people in the region, including 22,000 sponsored children, of whom, 3,600 are sponsored by Canadians.
World Vision operates Area Development Programmes (ADP) in a number of West Bank locations, as well as 20 smaller projects. By partnering with local NGOs, World Vision reaches the community through a variety of development activities, including
Food Security —Water resources management; agriculture projects.
Education —Construction of classrooms, playgrounds, child-centres and kindergartens; care and education for special needs children; vocational training.
Income Generation —Job creation, vocational training, establishing home gardens.
Advocacy —Building awareness of the situation, especially as it affects children.
Response to Conflict —Psychosocial interventions intended to improve the well-being of children.
Emergency Relief —Distribution of food parcels, blankets and medicine to displaced people and families in need.
