Sponsor a Child in Armenia

World Vision Canada recently started child sponsorship in Armenia. The new program gives families the resources they need to build a better future. You can help by sponsoring a child.

Daily Struggles
For most Armenians, life is a struggle. Half the population lives below the poverty line. The decade that followed the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1990 brought high unemployment rates. And incoming governments have failed to invest in health care, education, and infrastructure.

Communities are often without clean drinking water because public taps can freeze for months at a time.

Many children in the area suffer from malnutrition because they eat an unvarying diet of wheat and pasta. Many children eat vegetables only in the summer and meat only on special occasions.

Not surprisingly, children are often sick. However, health clinics in the region are in poor condition and lack qualified doctors and nurses.

Many children don't go to school, as families can't afford the expense. Also, a number of schools lack teachers, heating, textbooks, and school supplies.

Farmers are completely dependent on regular rainfall to grow their crops because decades-old irrigation systems have fallen into disrepair.

Self-Sufficient Communities
Using child sponsorship funds, World Vision will help improve living conditions for Armenian children over the next 10 to 15 years. Work has already begun in Armenia. Projects include rehabilitating pipelines, irrigation systems, and schools.

Future projects will include income-generation activities, HIV and AIDS education, as well as improved health care.
