Partnering with CIDA
The Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) recently awarded a $1.9 million investment in World Vision Canada's work.

Several key World Vision projects in Africa, Asia and Canada will receive funding from CIDA, a government agency that supports sustainable development, poverty reduction and humanitarian assistance for developing countries.

Projects receiving aid include:

1. Eastern IDP (Internally Displaced Person) Response, Sri Lanka
This $336,000 investment is designed to help children in Sri Lanka. The goal of the project is to help children who have fled their homes in the recent escalation of violence between the Sri Lanka Government forces and the Tamil Tigers. Initiatives include mobile health clinics, shelter, water supply and child protection for 3,000 families displaced in east Sri Lanka.

2. Masisi Territory Water and Sanitation Project, Democratic Republic of the Congo
A $500,000 CIDA grant, combined with $50,000 from World Vision Canada, improves access to safe and sustainable water. This investment aims to improve sanitation and the health of communities in the eastern region of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The project hopes to reduce the risk of water-borne diseases by increasing access to clean water, improving water storage ability and improving sanitation practices.

3. Pader-Kitgum Water and Sanitation Project, northern Uganda
A $500,000 CIDA funding announcement, combined with a $47,000 World Vision Canada grant, will improve access to clean water. Twenty-five boreholes will be established in newly formed camps to enable families' access to safe water. Promotion of hygiene is also planned in this project.

4. Bakool Integrated Water and Protection Project, Somalia
CIDA granted $500,000 in aid, combined with a $54,000 World Vision Canada pledge, to improve access to clean water and hygiene in Somalia. This project will involve the construction of shallow wells and boreholes as well as community training on water management, sanitation and hygiene promotion.

5. Humanitarian Capacity Building Project, Canada
A $65,000 grant will be administered in training for members of PAGER (the Policy and Advocacy Group for Humanitarian Response). The forum, co-chaired by World Vision Canada, is comprised of leading humanitarian non-governmental organizations, the humanitarian branches of CIDA and the Department of Foreign Affairs.
