World Vision emergency relief supplies safely reached Beirut on a World Food Programme-chartered ship. With this latest shipment of items, World Vision will be able to help 45,000 people in Beirut and southern Lebanon affected by the conflict between Hezbollah and the Israeli military.
The supplies, shipped from World Vision warehouses in Germany and Italy include:
- 16,000 collapsible water containers;
- 96,000 water purification tablets;
- four water purification units;
- 2,000 hygiene kits containing shampoo, soap, a toothbrush and toothpaste, toilet paper, detergent, and sanitary items for women;
- medical supplies to treat approximately 25,000 people.
Since the conflict began a month ago, World Vision has responded to the critical needs of 30,000 Lebanese people who have sought refuge in its project areas throughout the country. Staff members distributed food, blankets, clothes, hygiene kits, milk, diapers, and medicine to displaced families.
Bombing in Beirut and southern Lebanon made it difficult for people to leave the region—and dangerous to reach them with food and medicine. It is hoped that the ceasefire will make it easier and safer for World Vision to distribute much-needed aid.
