A couple of years ago, a World Vision program caught Lucie Imbeau’s attention. Moved by what she saw, the Gatineau, Quebec, woman jotted down the phone number. The next morning, she became the sponsor of seven-year-old Maria Lora Lopez from the Dominican Republic.

Last February, Lucie travelled south to meet Maria and see with her own eyes the difference child sponsorship is making in the girl’s life. She says the experience has made her a lifelong believer in World Vision’s work. “Maria goes to school today because of me. She’s in good health and can get her teeth cleaned because of me. She can go to the hospital today because of me.”

The experience, says Lucie, taught her how little it takes to make a difference. “It doesn't take much to bring a bit of happiness to someone else in the world. A small gesture means a lot.”
