Rachelle Parents: My dad delivers mail. My mom works at a daycare for a few hours each day. My mom is kind. She tells my dad that she thinks he and I should go for walks. Then my dad says yes. He loves me a lot. School: My mom schools me at home. I like math because I like to calculate. And I love history because I like stories about what happened before. Play: I like to play with Snubbies. They're little toy horses and dogs. They come in packs of five. Pets: I have a cat named Meka. She never runs out the door like ordinary cats do. She knows on Sundays we don't change her litter so she doesn't bother us. Proudest achievement: I'm knitting a scarf with really nice wool. Some people say, "How did you do that?" I tell them it's easy. I can watch television without even looking at what I'm doing. Prayer: I pray for my mom and dad, for God to help me be good, and to say thank you, God, for what I have, like my cat. When I grow up: I want to have a family. I want to be a teacher so I can be a missionary. I can travel and help people. My parents think being a missionary is a good idea, too. If I met Bianca Lidia: I'd ask her if she wanted to play with my Snubbies. Interview by Rosa Harris-Adler. |
Blanca Lidia Parents: My mom and dad are loving people. My dad works in the fields and my mom prepares the meals, sweeps, and washes clothes. House: We don't have water or electricity. We have to fetch water from a stream that's half a kilometre from here. At night we light the house with a gas lamp. Fears: I'm afraid of the dark because I think I might see something scary. I lie on my bed, well tucked, and I close my eyes. School: I enjoy math because it's about thinking. I can already divide. I'd like to be like my teacher, Juana, who teaches me science and mathematics. Play: I jump rope with my classmates. Sometimes I play softball. I don't play dolls because I don't have any. I like combing my hair into two ponytails and wearing my hair long. Pets: My cat's name is Pancha. She is so loving. I've had her since she was a kitten. I like her eyes because they're green. I feed her tortillas. World Vision: They've helped me at school and I have medical checkups. They gave me my shoes, which are new and soft. I go to school and out to play wearing these shoes. Prayer: I pray for my family at church and at Sunday school. God wants me to do well in all things. If I met Rachelle: I would ask her to play jump rope. Interview by Katia Maldonado. |
