On Sunday, July 15, the Toronto Star ran an article about fundraising which mentioned World Vision and another charity.
World Vision honours the trust you place in us when you make a donation. We are committed to using those donations to help children and communities, spending as little as possible on fundraising and administration.
Door-to-door fundraising is one of our most cost-effective means of finding new sponsors. Today, we raise more than ten dollars for every dollar we spend on this program. This is just one of many ways we ask people to support children in need.
As mentioned in the article, a portion of the door-to-door fundraising done on World Vision's behalf was paid on a commission basis, despite our contracts with fundraising companies that prohibited this. We have made sure this practice has stopped because it is not consistent with our commitment to ethical fundraising.
We take this issue seriously and continue to find ways we can improve.
Our door-to-door representatives are carefully trained to treat people with respect, and they do. We have received very few complaints and we follow-up each one. We also call all new donors to confirm they are comfortable with their decision to give.
Canadians should choose to give to World Vision because they want to make a difference in the life of a child, not because they feel pressured.
We hope that you and other Canadians continue to share our dream of a better world for children.
