Four Ways World Vision Helps Mothers
1. Nutrition Programs
Many mothers don't know how to make healthy recipes for their families or identify the symptoms of malnutrition.

In World Vision's Hearth Program, mothers of healthy children teach those with malnourished children how to prepare nutritious meals. Click here to view a slide show of the program at work in Mali.

2. Small Business Loans
World Vision's small business loans program helps thousands of poor entrepreneurs work their way out of poverty. Most loan recipients are women, who use the income to benefit their children.

World Vision provides credit, business coaching, and access to markets. This enables mothers to participate in the marketplace and earn their way to a better life. Click here to find out how the loan program works.

3. Empowerment
Gender equality and empowering women are integrated into all aspects of World Vision's work.

World Vision observes International Women's Day, holds workshops, and supports rallies for women's rights. Staff members promote the participation of women on committees and encourage them to solve problems that affect their communities.

World Vision also looks for creative ways to empower women, such as holding an annual women's soccer tournament in northern Ecuador. Click here to learn more.

4. Prevention of Mother-to-Child HIV Transmission
World Vision helps stop the spread of HIV infection by promoting healthy choices to pregnant and breastfeeding women.

Where possible, World Vision refers mothers to health clinics where they can receive medication that decreases the chance of transmission from mother to child in utero and through breastfeeding.
