Canadian celebrities united for “Canada for Haiti”, a one-hour live national broadcast, that raised more than $9 million for charities working to help victims of the earthquake.
Several reputable NGOs, including World Vision Canada, joined together for this effort and donations were shared among the organizations.
Hosted by George Stroumboulopoulos, Cheryl Hickey and Ben Mulroney—and airing on CBC, Global and CTV—the broadcast was packed with exciting performances from stars such as K’Naan, Nelly Furtado and The Tragically Hip. Appearances from other stars included Michael J. Fox, James Cameron and Ryan Reynolds.
The show also featured powerful stories from the local Haitian community and victims, and celebrity endorsements asking Canadians to respond.
The broadcast directly preceded the U.S. fundraiser, “Hope for Haiti Now”, hosted by George Clooney, Wyclef Jean and Anderson Cooper.
World Vision thanks Canadians for their continual support as we respond to the urgent needs in Haiti in the coming weeks and months.
Please donate today to World Vision’s relief efforts in Haiti.
