A Piglet for Syna
For Syna's family, a piglet means a better future. The 12-year-old's mother, Phalla, and father, Te, are poor farmers in Cambodia's Samlot district. They struggle to grow enough rice and peanuts to feed their six children. In May, this family and 44 others in Samlot received piglets purchased by Canadians through the World Vision Gift Catalogue. "Your generous donation will stay deep in my heart forever," says Phalla.
World Vision staff also trained the families on caring for the piglets and provided materials to build pens. When the pigs mature and reproduce, several piglets from each litter will go to other needy people. Families can sell the remaining piglets or keep them for food. Syna's parents hope they will soon be able to afford the food, medicine, clothing, and schooling their children need.
