30 Hour Famine Raises Millions

Maggie Hynes and Connor Scheu (far right) travelled to Tanzania in 2009 and saw firsthand the challenges that children and young people from impoverished families face every day.

World Vision’s 30 Hour Famine program helps young people make a significant impact on the problem of world hunger. By pledging to go without food for 30 hours, they not only raise money to feed and care for children worldwide, they also gain an understanding of how it feels to experience hunger. This past year, many young people helped inspire compassion through their actions. The 30 Hour Famine was able to:

  • Involve 157,000 participants from 1,673 schools and churches
  • Raise $4.1 million

“The 30 Hour Famine allows you to take a bite out of the hunger crisis by raising awareness, money and hope to change the world.” — Maggie Hynes, Youth Ambassador

“The 30 Hour Famine is an opportunity for all youth to stand together in the fight against poverty and social injustice. It is a way for us to tell the world that we are passionate about these issues, that we have a voice, and that we have the power to take action and make change.” — Connor Scheu, Youth Ambassador

Maggie and Connor, along with 4 other youth from across Canada, took on the role of youth ambassadors for World Vision’s 30 Hour Famine. Together, they shared their inspiring stories, mobilizing and encouraging other young people to speak out against poverty and make a change.
