1 Minute at a Time

Between work, cooking, classes and sleeping many of us have precious little time to breath, never mind attaining world peace.

But you don’t actually need to take a week’s vacation to build houses for the poor (unless you want to, of course). Small actions can have a big impact. Here’s how you can make a difference in just a few minutes.

One Minute
You’ve got one minute in the morning while your kids are brushing their teeth. You could:

a) subscribe to World Vision Canada’s Justice Network Newsletter to stay up to date on the latest advocacy news.
b) become more informed about humanitarian crises worldwide by scanning the headlines at www.alertnet.org.
c) make www.WorldVision.ca your homepage.

Five Minutes
You’ve got five minutes left on your lunch hour. You could:

a) learn more about the famine affecting millions in Ethiopia with World Vision’s 5-minute Guide.
b) write a note to someone you care about—your child, your mom, your neighbour—for no other reason than to tell them they’re important to you.
c) sponsor a child through World Vision.

Ten Minutes
You’ve got 10 minutes before supper hits the table. You could:

a) phone your colleague who just had a baby and ask if there’s anything she needs
b) help vulnerable children worldwide by becoming a Crisis Child Partner.
c) snuggle on the sofa with your kids and read a book

45 Minutes
You’ve got 45 minutes before you have to pick up the kids at karate. In 45 minutes you could:

a) stop at the grocery store and fill a bag for the food bank.
b) hike over to your local park and help keep it clean by picking up trash.
c) research a new charity you’re considering supporting. Click here to find out how the federal government regulates registered charities.

One Hour
You’ve got an hour before dropping the kids off at grandma’s for a sleepover. In 60 minutes you could:

a) have a conversation with your kids about how they can make a difference in the world.
b) bake some muffins for your neighbour.
c) get a jump start on your Christmas and birthday shopping by making a list of everyone you want to buy for. Then peruse World Vision’s Gift Catalogue for gifts that can change people’s lives.
