of World Vision United States’ statement Wednesday, March 26 regarding the
reversal of their decision to change their hiring practices, we have been
receiving numerous inquiries about World Vision Canada’s hiring practices. I
want to clarity what our position is and what this means for our staff and our
mission to serve the poor.
the changes in World Vision United States’ hiring policy, Word Vision Canada’s
approach has remained consistent. World Vision Canada complies with provincial
laws on this matter which prohibit discrimination on the basis of sexual
orientation. Matters of sexual orientation are not part of our interview
process, and are not a factor in employment.
World Vision looks for qualified staff, we’re clear that we are a Christian,
faith-based organization. Our mission is to follow Jesus in serving the poor,
both in Canada and abroad. We hire staff who see themselves as aligned with our
Christian values. We look to Jesus’ example in his care for children and for those
facing poverty and injustice as we develop our programs to help children. Our
faith motivates us, and prayer and spiritual formation are an important part of
our life and work at World Vision.
Vision Canada values the inherent dignity of each person as created by God and
we uphold and protect their human rights. We have clear policies and procedures
for staff to follow if they experience discrimination or harassment in the
that our employees sign and follow a code of conduct. That code of conduct,
signed every year by each staff person, requires all our staff to behave in a
manner that is ethical, legal, and consistent with our values and mission.
the work that we do, we provide assistance to all people, regardless of their
religion, race, ethnicity, gender or sexual orientation. We continue to stand
up and speak out for children and families around the world who are living in
poverty. We are so grateful for the thousands of Canadians who partner with us,
and we are deeply committed to continuing this important work.
you for your ongoing support of World Vision and for your compassionate care
for children. Please don’t hesitate to contact our office at 1-866-595-5550 if
