Winter is About to Roar Down on Pakistan
October 14, 2005

Mississauga, ON—World Vision is speeding up response activities in preparation for cold weather, rains and snowstorms that will make the situation for survivors of the earthquake in Pakistan even more desperate.

“Winter is about to roar down on Pakistan.  It is imperative that we get winterized tents, blankets and basic living tools to each and every one of these people,” said John Schenk of World Vision’s global rapid response team.

Current reports state that the earthquake has displaced two million people, and thousands of them are now sleeping rough, in makeshift tents, under sheets, out in the open or in the ruins of their homes.

This week, World Vision delivered more than 30,000 blankets and 1,500 winterized tents, as well as children’s winter coats and other essential items to the affected area.

To date, World Vision has raised $750,000, which will be eligible for the federal government’s matching funds program. The fund is matching donations made to registered Canadian charities like World Vision until October 26. Canadians wishing to contribute to World Vision’s earthquake response can call 1-800-268-5528 or click here to make an online donation.

As Canada's largest relief and development agency, World Vision's passion is to help children and their communities transform their lives by fighting poverty and injustice.  Since 1950, we have been providing hope for children in nearly 100 countries.  We are motivated by God's love for all people regardless of race, religion or gender.
