CIDA grants World Vision $150,000 for Philippines emergency relief

The Canadian International Development Agency has granted World Vision Canada $150,000 for disaster assistance for people of the Philippines. A series of typhoons has devastated the country affecting 650,000 people and causing millions of dollars in damages.

"This grant will help provide the basics to people who have been forced from their homes with little but the clothes on their backs," said Dirk Booy, vice president, International and Canadian programs World Vision Canada.

World Vision is already providing emergency food distribution to some of the hardest-hit areas. This grant allows distribution of essential items such as: clothes, blankets, kitchen utensils and water carriers. These basic goods and supplies provide the comfort and protection necessary to stabilize families and communities by improving their health and ability to cope with the situation.

In addition to the $150,000 grant from CIDA, World Vision Canada has designated $37,000 from Canadian donations to this emergency. The organization needs an additional $70,000 to provide assistance in the province of Aurora, an area hit particularly hard.

World Vision is an international Christian relief and development organization working in more than 90 countries around the world, providing help to more than 85 million people each year.
