Mississauga, ON—October 26 is the last day that the Canadian federal government will match individual donations made to registered charities for Pakistan earthquake relief efforts. World Vision Canada has set a goal of $3 million. As of Monday, October 24, $2 million had been raised. World Vision Canada is appealing to Canadians to support its relief effort before winter descends on the quake victims.

“Getting aid there in time can mean the difference between life and death,” said Dave Toycen, president of World Vision Canada. “Winter in Pakistan is going to hit shortly and we need funds immediately to continue to provide aid to families before it’s too late. Canadians can make their donations go even further by contributing before the government’s October 26 deadline,” said Toycen.

World Vision was on the ground when the earthquake struck, and is distributing emergency supplies to families including tents, blankets, tarps, medicine, food, potable water and water containers.

In addition to meeting families’ basic needs, World Vision is ensuring that children are cared for in the midst of the chaotic recovery operation. “Children are our priority in emergency situations,” says Emmanuel Isch, emergency response director for World Vision Canada. “We integrate their care and protection into every sector of our response be it shelter, water, food, health, or education. For example, when we distribute food it is usually given to mothers because we know it will get to their children. They won’t sell it on the market or use it to barter.”
