Canadians donate more than $500,000 through World Vision as death toll swells beyond  50,000 in Southeast Asia.

World Vision appeals for Canadians to continue to give.

Mississauga, December 28, 2004 - Out of concern and grief, thousands of Canadians are giving generously to World Vision relief efforts in Southeast Asia.

"Overnight, Canadians have donated more than $500,000 to help families devastated by the tsunamis," says Dave Toycen, president of World Vision Canada. "Because Canadians are continuing to give generously, we are confident that we will collect more than $2 million."

Dave Toycen, president of World Vision Canada is leaving tomorrow for Southeast Asia to assess damages and support on-going relief efforts. With more than three decades of experience in the egion, World Vision confirms that many of the projects running in the area have been affected by the devastating tsunamis. World Vision is responding with relief in all of the affected countries.

World Vision Canada is providing emergency relief that includes items such as water purification tablets, shelter and roofing materials, blankets, food rations and plastic sheeting. The Christian humanitarian aid organization has launched an appeal to Canadians for $2 million to help provide for families reeling from shock and grief.

"Our hearts go out to the many families who are struggling for survival and suffering with grief in Southeast Asia," says Dave Toycen. "World Vision urges Canadians to respond generously to these innocent victims."
