PORT-AU-PRINCE, HAITI  (January 17, 2010) – 28,000 lbs of cargo a day is now arriving in the Haitian capital of Port-au-Prince as part of World Vision’s relief effort following Tuesday’s deadly earthquake

Twice a day starting Saturday, light aircraft will transport for World Vision 14,000 lbs of essential goods from Santa Domingo to Port-au-Prince. This will enable much needed supplies to be brought to Port-au-Prince without straining Haitian resources.

Other relief efforts over the past 48 hours include:

• Distributing water and clothing kits to 1000 families in Port-au-Prince on Saturday
  
  
• Providing medical supplies to 11 hospitals and health centres in Port-au-Prince and setting up a mobile clinic in nearby Pétionville

The first major airlift of supplies from World Vision, bringing thousands of blankets, water containers, cooking sets and tarpaulins arrived in Port-au-Prince around 10:30 pm Friday night. Distribution of these supplies is underway.

“People around the world this week have reached out to Haiti,” says World Vision Canada President Dave Toycen. “It’s our job now to see that their generosity connects with the children and families of Port-au-Prince.”
