Canadian support for Haiti continues to pour in
Share Now

MISSISSAUGA, Ont. (January 16, 2010) – As of 7:00 p.m. Saturday evening, World Vision reports over $5.1 million has been raised for support for survivors of the earthquake in Haiti. Donations have been arriving at a rapid rate, even faster than the overwhelming response of Canadians to the 2004 Tsunami.

“Canadians now have so many ways they can donate online or through their mobile phone,” says Caroline Riseboro, Director of Specialized Marketing for World Vision Canada. “We definitely see the positive impact that the accessibility and speed social media provides when it comes to dire emergencies, where every second counts.”

While the donations received in this short time are encouraging, much more is needed to effectively distribute desperately needed water, food, shelter and other basic needs for survival.

To make a donation through World Vision, Canadians can text ‘World’ 45678, or join World Vision’s “HAITI RELIEF $10 (OR MORE) CHALLENGE” on Facebook.  Canadians can also call to donate through World Vision at 1-800-268-5528, or visit worldvision.ca.
