Airlift of Canadian Supplies from World Vision to Haiti
Share Now

TRENTON, ON (January 18, 2010) - A Canadian Forces C-17 Cargo plane left CFB Trenton at 2:30 pm Sunday afternoon bound for the Haitian capital of Port-au-Prince. Included on the plane were much-needed supplies from World Vision for the victims of last Tuesday’s earthquake.

Another shipment will leave Monday morning at 9:30 am. By the time it arrives Monday afternoon, more than 5 tonnes of relief supplies including mosquito nets, blankets and tarpaulins will have been transported.

The shipments are part of a massive deployment of stockpiled relief supplies, valued at over $100,000, allocated to World Vision by the Canadian International Development Agency. The planes are being provided by the Department of National Defence.

“These supplies from Canada are an important addition to what we already have on the ground,” noted Dave Toycen, President and CEO of World Vision Canada. “They will be put to immediate use to provide adequate emergency shelter for the children and families in Port-au-Prince who are now just sleeping in the streets.”

“But no sooner will these supplies arrive than we will be looking forward to the next shipment, and the next one after that. The need is so great.”

Many more supplies will be airlifted to Haiti in the coming week.
