NEWS:

Hockey fans the world over have the chance to own a piece of Olympic hockey history, while helping children and families in Haiti rebuild their lives.

Jerseys worn by Sidney Crosby, James Iginla, Alex Ovechkin and other NHL players during the 2010 Olympics are up for auction on the NHL Players’ Association web site, with all proceeds going to the “Hockey for Haiti” relief effort in support of World Vision Canada’s work in Haiti.

A total of 140 jerseys will be offered between now and June 15. The first round of 23, all worn by Team Canada players, is available now through May 18.

QUOTES:

“Having the opportunity to participate in the Olympics and to represent Canada was a huge honour for me. It is fantastic that the jerseys that all the NHLPA members wore in Vancouver, will now benefit the Hockey for Haiti initiative.”
— Jarome Iginla, Team Canada player, scored two goals in February 23 Canadian victory

“This Olympic jersey auction is incredibly exciting for World Vision. With proceeds helping to rebuild the Grace Children’s Hospital in Port au Prince, we’re hoping there will be a lot of competition in the bidding over the next few weeks.”
— Dave Toycen, President & CEO, World Vision Canada

CONTEXT:

Auction proceeds go to “Hockey for Haiti,” a joint initiative between NHL veteran Georges Laraque, the NHL Players’ Association (NHLPA) and World Vision.

Hockey for Haiti supports World Vision's emergency response and long-term development programs in Haiti, including the reconstruction of Grace Children's Hospital in Port-au-Prince. Badly damaged in the earthquake, this hospital is known as Haiti’s leading medical facility for the treatment of children with tuberculosis.
