Let it snow…snow…and snow.
What to wear to survive the winter in Canada
Every year, when winter hits, it's the same old story for Canadians –– salted sidewalks, icy windshields, snow–filled driveways and freezing temperatures. Let's face it, winter can be a big hassle, especially when you aren't prepared for it. Whether you are braving the cold weather to shovel the snow, hit the slopes or just to walk your dog, you need to make sure you dress for the conditions. This winter why not be organized and beat the frostbite, by following these simple tips.
Bundle up – If you're going to be outside in the frigid cold for a while, make sure to wear a jacket that is windproof and water–resistant, along with a warm pair of gloves and a scarf to wrap around your neck. And don't forget your hat. Covering your head when you're outside can keep you from losing essential body heat.
Layers are key – Layering is a great way to dress for winter weather. If it's cold outside you know that layers will help keep heat in. If it happens to get a little warmer, you can always remove a layer to be more comfortable. Wear fabrics that help keep in warmth like fleece, wool and flannel.
You bet your boots – Concentrate on boots to keep your feet warm. Make sure that they are comfortable to walk in, lined and definitely waterproof. As well, make sure they have good treads to keep you from slip–sliding away on that treacherous ice.
Donate your old winter clothes – Since you are already prepping for winter, why not donate some of your old winter clothes to a women's shelter or to a thrift shop? If you don't have clothes to donate, you can make a gift to a charity, like World Vision, (
WorldVision.ca/gifts) that offer items like providing warm winter clothes for children in need. Not only will you protect children from freezing temperatures but you (and they) might just find that you start to enjoy that white winter weather. Let it snow!
