TURN HUNGER INTO HISTORY
Taking action through creative approaches
Youth do the Famine
SHANTYTOWN GYMNASIUM – Some Famine groups have made the experience of participating in the World Vision 30 Hour Famine a memorable one. Groups have transformed their school gymnasium into a shantytown bringing their own building materials (cardboard, string, tape or plastic wrap) and creating a place where they will spend 30 hours understanding firsthand what it is like to live in cramped space with no food or water.

WATCHING MOVIES WITH MEANING – Other Famine groups watch movies with social justice themes, movies that have relevant and meaningful messages about global issues like poverty, malnutrition and conflict. Watching these theme based movies helps to put things into perspective about how millions of people worldwide are living and inspires people to want to do more to help.

TIME CAPSULE – Another way groups are making the World Vision 30 Hour Famine a meaningful event is creating a time capsule. Participants fill a capsule with different news clippings about the current state of the world’s poor. Once the capsule is filled, students can bury it in the school yard. When the time comes for students to join the event again next year, they can read the articles and see if there has been a significant change with helping those affected by poverty, hunger and malnutrition.
